Sometimes it seems parking at the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports costs almost as much as flying out of them. Through trial and error, I’ve found a few moderately economical solutions.
My Fort Lauderdale favorite used to be the airport’s extremely remote lot off Griffin Road, which was a 15-minute ride to the airport but only $3 a day. When the cost rose to $9, I moved on.
It’s down to $7.50 a day, Broward County airport officials informed me after last week’s column, but you can do better. You just have to go online for coupons first.
The website is www.3dollarairportparking.com, though I’ve never gotten that price. This month, it was $5 per day plus tax. The rate seem to change each time I travel, but I’ve never paid more than $7. The service is more reliable than the website, though I have occasionally waited half an hour for a shuttle from the airport back to the lot at 3020 Federal Hwy.
My Miami favorite is Airport FastPark, at 4101 SW 31st St. You can save $1 or more a day with a website coupon, which currently offers a rate of $7.94 plus tax.
Miami International Airport has remote economy parking at $8 per day, but I’ve never been able to find it. The airport website says it’s at 1350 NW 45th Ave. (There’s a map at www.miami-airport.com; click on passenger information, then parking.)
A service called www.airportparkingreservations.com lists options for airports here and across the nation. For a fee, you can make a reservation.
